Leaving the Big Smoke in style… almost

We are now moving on to the second leg of our journey, first stop Phitsanulok to visit… you guessed it… Ruins. We took the overnight train here from Bangkok, the train goes to Chiang Mai but we got off to visit some of the smaller places. On the train we met some wonderful people from India, the U.S. and Germany. It was a very interesting train journey (A very unusual train trip)… but we loved every minute of it.
When we arrived in Phitsanulok train station, it reminded me of an old cowboy movie with the new stranger arriving in a town. There was hardly a soul to be found and we had to find our way to the hotel at 2 A.M.  So we hired the highest quality transport we could at this hour of the morning.
When we arrived at the hotel (in our high quality transport;-) there was a bit of confusion with the reservation, but everything got sorted out. The people were just wonderful and it is such a quaint place.

Today we walked and walked and walked…. At one point we were so exhausted from the heat that we obviously received the blessing of some Buddha because we found this wonderful air-conditioned Japanese coffee shop (with Wi-Fi)…  the first coffee shop we ever had to take off our shoes as well as being the nicest coffee shop we’ve ever stepped foot in. We then took the local bus to Sukhothai, to visit the ruins there… stay updated on our next blog.

Signing off,
